problems with DVD

Has anyone had problems playing this DVD? I got it from Netflix and 4 replacements later I still haven't been able to see this film in my DVD player (or my computer's DVD player). I even bought a brand new copy of the collector's edition which also doesn't play (but the 2nd disc containing extras does!!). This is the only disc I've ever had trouble playing in my DVD player which is about 4 years old. Did Showtime/Sundance release a bad batch of these perhaps? Or should I get a new DVD player? What gives?

I just put in the 3rd disc I had Netflix send me and I still have skipping problems. The discs don't look new and there are a couple minor scratches, but I've had ones look worse and play fine. It does seem like it might be a problem with the disc creation.

I had a problem with the disc when I tried to play it on my computer (running 64 bit XP), as it was encoded using mpeg-2. With Nero, for example, you have to pay extra for some of these codecs like mpeg-2. I was lucky enough to get a warning message alerting me precisely to the nature of the problem. I was also fortunate to have PowerDVD for playback, which comes packaged with this codec. So, it could be an issue with your DVD player not supporting the mpeg-2 format properly (or at all).

I've experienced no problems with my collector's edition. I'd invest in another DVD player (different brand). I also have a DVD-R copy I bootlegged off Sundance, if you're interested, once you get another DVD player.

I rented it yesterday and it played fine.

I recently bought the collector's edition and had no problems with it.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!
