But what did you expect,coming from Harry Novak? Now, as pure trash goes, I happen to like Novak & his tasteless, talent-less and plot-less movies!
One reviewer stated he thought this film may have come out post Godfather (1972)
I agree with him. And because of that, I find this film that much more fascinating. The Godfather is such a huge part of cinematic & pop culture history, yet I don’t know anyone who knows about this film!

So, in closing, if you’re looking for a super dooper fantastic movie epic, steer clear of The Godson, or pretty mush any other film Harry Novak is involved with.
If you want to see a soft core “mob” movie curio, which SEEMS to made to capitalize on the success of The Godfather, then I would say… Lower your standards, and be ready to see some HORRIBLE acting, but you’ll also see some lovely ladies!

I fail to understand how can this film be rated X. Rotten Tomatoes rated it R.

It was rated X at the time of release in the early 70s when the ratings code was much stricter. A lot of R rated movies of that era would barely be considered PG-13 today.

The MPAA was much LESS strict then; they're are several movies that would get much harder rating if made today and some that were re-rated because they are, by today's standards, too dirty, violent or profane for the rating it had originally. And, yes, 'The Godson' would be an NC-17 if it were made now because 99.9% of the movie consists of people fornicating.

This movie's pretty bad, but it's the only porn with a cameo by Harlan Ellison, and that makes it worth watching once.
