That Kazoo Marching Band

So much of the greatness of the original Get Carter has to do with its gritty 1971 look and its totally realistic view of Newcastle in that year.

One of the places this comes together for me is with what looks like "documentary" footage of a an all-girl's marching band diligently tromping down a street(with some expert baton twirling) under the realization that they are all playing KAZOOS.

Director Mike Hodges captures footage of this weird "parade" and its funny enough -- but he intercuts this outdoor activity with Caine's inside activity -- some morning sex with the landlady, a bit too old for "babe-hood," and with poor teeth but...attractive and sexual enough, that's for sure.

And the sex is mixed with...kazoos?

And then the baddies arrive in the middle of all this.

Sublime. And historical. How many more years did that kazoo marching band last, I wonder...

Don't know about that particular band but 'Jazz' bands as they were popularly known fizzled out in the mid 80's.
