this film is so bad, i have difficulty believing that even children could be entertained by watching this rubbish. and yet they churned out loads of these gamera films. there really is no accounting for taste.

Yep...made for the kiddies. This film ended Gamera's film career until the 1990s when he churned out 3 films including Gamera vs Iris...arguably the best kaiju film ever. Super Gamera from 1980 doesn't count, it's all stock footage.
Godzilla vs Gamera...the shortest kaiju movie ever made.

Seen it now. It actually isn't that bad, at least for MST3K. Decent enough to sit through while a man and two robots talk. LOL
The picture is also better than some of the cheap DVD sets I have that include other GAMERA movies. I don't recall them being that good.

There were a few scenes from the MST3K version that made me laugh, but this is still the least funny MST3K Gamera film they did. The one with the ginzu knife dog monster against Gamera is really really funny, I laughed way more at that one. Gamera vs Guiran or something like that. Someone posted the whole thing on youtube (along with this one and all the others).

The other Gamera films were fun. But this one, sadly, was not. It focuses too much on the children and they don't do anything interesting. You have a mind-controlled woman chasing them around Sea World while anyone and everyone, including the villain, delivers lectures on the importance of protecting the environment. Zigra was an interesting villain, and I enjoyed the fight scene at the end, but it was too little, too late to make the picture itself enjoy. It was an unfitting end for poor Gamera.
...and our oceans, and life on Earth itself, will see an unfitting end if we don't stand up and start protecting our environment. We must protect it from pollution, wars, bad dubbing, and traffic accents.
