I remember seeing this movie as a child.

It was extremely risque. My mother hated censorship and took us to the drive-in movie with my brother and I in the trunk so we could see it. They wouldnt allow kids in to see this movie. I remember being shocked by the nudity. However, it was one of my favorite movies of all time as it appealed to the imagination of a young girl with "ideas" of love. I would love to buy this and see it again to see what my reaction would be now I'm 46.

Yesterday, a friend of mine finally gave me the title of this movie! I remember seeing in on TV with my mother (a french version)... How old was I...? 10, maybe. For sure, it is one of those experiences in my childhood that marked me and my vision of how simple and natural a childbirth should be. I'm now 30 and gave birth to my third child quite "like them", at 28...
I recall my experience as a young girl seeing this movie in a book, a compilation of childbirth stories, wich was released in january... www.editions-remuemenage.qc.ca/consulter.php?titre=209 (but it is in french)
One cannot know where a movie may lead you someday...!

As a post note to the message I sent ...I wrote to Mr. Bury. He replied and sent a picture of himself then and now. It was so nice to write and meet him via email. He is a very nice man who now dedicates his life to caring for special people. I appreciate his being so nice.

My mother took me to see this movie when I was around 11 (I am
now 45). I saw it in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I remember
having the fantasy that it was me in the story. I would love to
see it again

Same here! I am 44 and saw this at the theater with my friend. Her mother was "progressive" and went with us, so we got in okay. I think you had to have a parent with you if you were under 17. I loved the movie and found it so beautiful and romantic, but I was blushing bright red during the "naughty parts." I loved the music by Elton John and the whole thing just seemed so idyllic.

How cool to see others in the same boat as I am! I must have been about 7. My mom didn't use too much censorship, either. It has stayed with me all these years. I remember the "feelings" I got watching it...and I want to, like some of you have said, see how it feels now that I'm 41 (with 3 kids)! I don't even remember the plot! Other movies at that time that left an imprint..."Romeo and Juliet" "Walkabout" and I was in love with "Oliver" (musical) the blond actor who played him...it was all around the early 70's....wow....and sneaking into drive-ins in the trunk...how cool was that? Those days are gone, but certainly not forgotten...I think we come from a cool era... :)

I remember only a few things about the actual plot. I remember them going to the zoo, becoming friends and falling in love but it was forbidden somehow, and all that.

I'm so amazed to hear you mention Romeo and Juliet! I was completely obsessed with that movie! Was it the one with Olivia Hussy and Leonard Whiting? I bought the soundtrack with my allowance and everything.

I remember the sneaking into drive-ins, too! One time in high school, my best friends and I snuck somebody in the trunk like that, and we all wore our pajamas and brought pillows and blankets!

A cool era indeed!

man that sounds cool. sneaking into the drive thru in the trunk lol. i didn't live in the 70's, but i miss it. i can't stand how the world has become so trashy and degenerate today. i miss the 70's and 80's.

This was one of the movies that an older cousin got me in to see at the drive-in that I wouldn't have normally been allowed to see (along with Kentucky Fried Movie and The Groove Tube)...

Do remember it fondly in that it was romantic but it didn't romanticize life. They had their fights and they made up, they went without food when he couldn't find work...and they stuck it out together.

In fact, despite it's theme of "runaway children" if I had my way I'd rather girls today were watching this than Twilight....

Michelle is Gloria Steinem compared to Bela.

Saw this movie when I was 16 - lied my in to the theater - and - in fact I saw it with "Play Misty for Me" - double feature - those days are gone. I remembered this movie - ever since I saw it - 35 years ago - and searched in vane to find a copy of it - when VHS players came out in the late 70s - early 80s - JUST now found a copy for sale on Ebay - CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT - this is probably one the best movies I have ever seen - or at least I remember it that way - at least from the eyes of a 16 year old growing up in New York ...
