Friends Soundtrack

Hi folks, does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of the soundtrack by Elton John? I had it on Vinyl years ago and dearly want to have it again. Perhaps one of you out there has one you want to sell. Cheers

You can find the entire Friends album on the second half of disc #1 on Elton John's 2CD "Rare Masters" box set. Most major online music stores will carry this album.

Enjoy!

Yes, but one song is mis-titled. It's "Variation On Friends", which was "Theme (The First Kiss)" on the LP.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!

I immediately ordered this online after finding your post. This is my wife and I's personal soundtrack to our lives. I have tears running down my cheeks as I listen to "Michelles Song" as I type this. Thank you so much for this info.
I had to buy three vinyl albums back in 1972 to get one that was playable, but I haven't been able to listen to it for many years now (new technology can suck). I thought it would never be available on CD (since the movie is probably considered kiddie porn in the prudish United States).
Again, thank you so much.

I saw the movie "Friends" with my high school sweetheart, when we were seniors. However, it's the soundtrack that has remained near and dear to me and my long-time close friend and pal Wendy, who in our thirties, became my youngest son's Godmother, and I her youngest son's Godmother. Obviously, we have remained close throughout the years, yes, and we have been through alot together.

Whenever we hear "I hope the day will be a lighter highway...for friends are found on every road...." turning into "A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly..." we just give each other a knowing look. We did watch our childhood fly. We traveled alot of miles together, she and I, since our teens. We are now fifty years old, and our sons are twenty.

To Wendy who taught me the importance of being both a mother and a friend.

I never saw the movie "Friends" but I happened upon the Vinyl in a Wherehouse Record Store in Torrance, California in the 70's. I was intrigued by the cover, but moreso since the soundtrack was by Elton John. I must say that this album has become probably my most treasured recording. I bought two of the records, believe it or not, for $1.97 each! When I moved to Palm Desert in 2003, I left all of my vinyls behind except for my unopened copy of "Friends." I am now looking for a local recording studio in the Coachella Valley of California for one who can duplicate the "virgin" vinyl onto a CD.

As we make friends in life, I always remember the words
" Making friends for the world to see -
Let the people know you got what you need.
With a friend at hand, you will see the light –
If your friends are there then everything’s all right."

Here's to all my friends who have made everything all right!

It really shouldn't be that hard to find one. Most used record places have at least a few copies. I picked myself up two copies the other day.

Is available on iTunes. Search "Rare Masters"

I just did it. It does work. You can narrow the search even further by typing in the iTunes search window, "Elton John rare masters". I noticed you said you went to iTunes.com. You need to search iTunes directly from it's own program. If you don't have it installed, you can either download it online or pick up a disc at any Apple store. Once you've installed it, just make sure you are shopping in the "USA" iTunes store. Let me know what happens.

Yes, there is a Canadian iTunes store. However, the Friends Soundtrack material only appears in the USA store. After you load up the iTunes software, on it's home page, you have the choice at the very bottom of the page to select which "store" you want to access. Each country requires it's own account. I found this info on Apple, "You can only buy music where you have a credit card registered in that country - so to buy in the US store, you'd have to have a US credit card registered to an address in the US. The rights to songs are different in other countries than they are in the US and so some songs haven't been put on the music store yet." Another way to go is Amazon has Elton's "Rare Masters" for sale. Get is used. Hope this helps.

The album (vinyl) track order is different than the CD. At first I thought it was incomplete on the CD re-issue (Rare Masters), but its order is just different.

The vinyl track order is:

Side one

01. (CD01)Friends
02. (CD06)Honey Roll
03. (CD07)Variations on "Friends" Theme (The First Kiss)
04. (CD03)Seasons
05. (CD04)Variations On Michelle's Song (A Day In The Country)
06. (CD05)Can I Put You On

Side 2

01. (CD02)Michelle's Song
02. (CD08)I Meant To Do My Work Today (A Day In The Country)
03. (CD09)Four Moods
04. (CD10)Seasons Reprise

I can guess the order was changed to fill the vinyl sides equally, but I'm not sure.
Cheers

I just found the record while cleaning out a basement. Brought back a lot of memories.

I remember that lurid pink colour and the couple kissing. I lost my vinyl, had it on cassette for a while and lent it to someone who never gave it back. I now have the Rare Masters CD, and want for nothing.

Well, pretty much.
