Uncut Version

I saw this film in the theater in the 70's and again recently on this tape. While I enjoyed the tape version, it was missing several scenes that had been in the original theater version. Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the uncut version?

I noticed the same thing. I was 13 when I saw the film and thought maybe it was my imagination that some scenes were missing. I remember the end where the father picks them up is different, yet I am sure there are others. Finding an uncut version would be tough. Good Luck. I love this movie.

There was also a scene where she teaches him how to fish (which makes her comment at at the end of the film make sense) as well as other missing scenes. The original, as I saw it was considerably more than 101 minutes, but worth the difference.

Nothing new. I am just amazed how many people of the same age and from the same era were affected by this movie (I thought I was the only one!). I've been trying to find both soundtrack and full length DVD but no luck so far. Someday ...

++POSSIBLE SPOILER++

Just saw "Friends" again after many years. It's on YouTube, but sadly the sequel is not.

I also thought I remembered a somewhat different ending. The version shown on YouTube had Paul's father and a police detective waiting for Paul to report to work at the vineyard. The scene cuts to the cottage, where Paul and Michelle say goodbye as he prepares to leave for work. He kisses her and the baby, goes outside, turns cartwheels as he leaves. She is shown at the window waving goodbye. Then it ends.

I remember it happening this way. Michelle is outside taking laundry off the clothesline when Paul comes home, accompanied by his father. Then it ends, with her turning to greet Paul and instead seeing his father there with him. Maybe I'm dreaming; as I said it's been years and years since I saw the film.

Pam,
Did you ever find a copy of the movie "Friends" ? I would love to own one but have no idea where to go to find it. Thanks, Anna

I'm another fan of this movie. I've been searching quite a while for a source of the uncut version, the one I saw way back 1972 when I was only 16 years old. Kindly inform me if you found a source or supplier of the original uncut version. Thank you very much.

La puedes encontrar en www.amazon.com pero solamente en VHS, lo peor es que está muy cara y la secuela "Paul and Michelle" que en México se llamó "Amigos y Amantes" está todavía más cara. (English

Do you think if the movie was ever released on DVD that they may add some of the material that was in the original theater version? I just love this movie

reply

I just wish that they had made a 3rd film showing what happened whne Paul graduated from the Sorbonne.. Someday I hope to go to France and find the little cottage they lived in.I loved these 2 movies, but most of all friends. I too would like the uncut version. Maybe someday we can get them on DVD. This movie means more to me then any movie I ever saw.

To Richard (Langsyneguy): Hey! What is the titile of the second movie? I saw Friends in a hotel room in 1987 and loved it! Yes! As someone above said, I think it's the innocence of the characters and the incongruity of the situation they were in that make for such sweet and memorable dramatic storytelling! I had never heard of it before that, and would love to see it again, plus would love to know the title of the sequel, so I can see that as well.

Hi leela108...

I loved this movie and didn't know until reading this thread that a second movie had been made. I had to track it down.

2 links and I found it: Paul and Michelle (1974)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071978/

Now I have to find a copy to watch.

For those who have seen the uncut version maybe you can explain this to me. When she was going into labor and said that she wanted to do something Paul goes "Not again", what was he saying "not again" about? Did he mean having sex, which in the movie she thought they couldn't do that while with child saying "You can't do that anymore", or was something cut out of the film that would answer my question?

Hi... better to have a late reply than never. The lines in the script you referred to, were relating to her requiring her to go to the toilet...implying that like a lot of females giving birth they frequently have to pass water.

Kind regards... Sean Bury (Paul Harrison)

The sequel was titled 'Paul And Michelle' and it was made three years later (1974) and starred the same people.

Bit of a long shot, but have you tried Google Streetview coupled with Google Earth? Streetview is not banned in France, unlike Germany. For example, my niece lives in a village on the outskirts of Toulouse and I found her house easily from the address. Over the past couple of years I have located several such places from my own life, including the cottage in Hampshire where I spent the first couple of years of my life in the late 1940s. The cottage is still there! Good luck!

God, I love this movie and it always makes me cry. And I'm a man. It's what life and love should be about. I first saw it in 2008.

I saw this in a theater when it first came out but have never seen it on video. If the video has been cut, it may well be that it was released before the current mania about "kiddie porn". Given the ages of the kids who star in the movie and the explicitness of some of the scenes, it may well be that some things were cut to be on the safe side of our current witch hunting mania. (Remember, even David Hamilton's stuff was legal at that time.)
The only comment I have on the movie itself, is that I remember being so swept up in it that when she was giving birth I said out loud that if anything happens to her, I'll kill the guys who made this movie.

I agree with you on that last point! I was sure something would happen, but thank goodness, it didn't. An absolutely great movie.
