One of my favorite movies

This is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen. For me this, Dirty Harry, the Sting, and the Friends of Eddie Coyle are the best movies from the 70s.

I would go so far as to say that the car chase might be the best action scene ever filmed.

The chase in The Seven Ups was pretty great too...give it a look!

I prefer some of the car chases in The Dukes of Hazzard with the boys and Roscoe to the car chases in French Connection and the Seven Ups

Damn...Eddie Coyle!
I dont know anyone who has seen it...its a srsly underappreciated movie
Mitchum was so great!

It’s ridiculous how many good movies came out in the 70s!

Dracula vs Frankenstein was my favorite from the 70s and came out the same year as this one

I'm going to have to disagree. This movie was just alright, in my opinion. I know it's based on a true story and I usually enjoy films that are based on real events and/or real characters but this didn't do anything for me. It's really too slow and the following the bad guy on foot scenes were boring as hell.

I mean, the car chase was alright but who hasn't seen this in a movie? I don't think it really brought anything new to the genre. Maybe at the time it did, but for today's audience, it's pretty standard stuff. But I did read an article about this movie being the starting point for a few former police officers that eventually got into making movies. So, that part of it is kinda interesting.

But honestly, I can't believe this beat A Clockwork Orange for best picture. You gotta be kidding me...

In fact, I would say The Last Picture Show was better and possibly Fiddler On The Roof was also better. Ohh well, not that Oscar actually means anything but I do think it's quite surprising that this beat them all.

Anyhow, TFC gets a 4.9 out of 10 from me.
