What was Charnier eating?

When Charnier first meets Nicoli in France, he plucks something off the pier and starts snacking on it. I imagine it was some kind of barnacle or shellfish. Does anybody know for sure? He sure seemed to enjoy it.

I disagree with what you are saying, but I will fight to your death for your right to say it;-)

Looked like an oyster.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

Friedkin says on the audio commentary what it is.

I think he says 'moule', maybe he didn't pronounce it right, which I thought is just the French word for a mussel.

But what Charnier eats is too big for a mussel.

reply

You're right, moule is the French term for mussel. I'm used to seeing mussels with rather smooth appearing exterior shells though maybe that's just for show in restaurants. Perhaps all the growth on the shell made the presumed mussel appear larger than typical. http://imgur.com/NfoTg9G

Maybe but wasn't he eating the growth on the shell as well?

But then again... When you're hungry, you're hungry.
