What was that sh*t hole building in the last scene with Popeye chasing Chanier?

Today it is probably a mega million dollar condo complex, but back in '71 I have no idea what it could have been. Abandoned toilets stacked all over. Mud everywhere. Any ideas? btw....this is my last post since IMDB is closing down it's message boards. Been a member since last century. There are some really smart people on these boards. Thanks for your content. Hopefully one of you knows what that building was. Au Revoir.

The final scene in The French Connection was shot in the remains of the Randall’s Island Bakery. I haven’t been able to find anything more on the bakery itself or what company operated it. If anybody knows anything about the history or at least when it was in operation, please, any information would be appreciated I
