George Kennedy's villain

Isn't he one of the meanest and scariest onscreen villains ever?
Something about him is so nasty, sadistic and awful.
Great performance by George to create such a unique villain.
I was genuinely appalled at some of his actions, especially in the climatic scenes.

And he was a Sunday School Teacher!!

Yes, he was quite menacing. Maybe they cast him because of his work in "Cool Hand Luke". (And I think you mean climactic, not climatic.)

George Kennedy plays an equally scary villain in the Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges crime flick Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

He even kills the most likable character in that film.
