I don't doubt it for a minute. I had to see this since I loved Jack Wild at the time and noticed he kept mouthing everyone's lines. I realized he had reached the end of his career.

He admitted he was drunk “every day”, but that does not mean he was drunk all-day.

You start drinking at some point after work and basically drink yourself to sleep. That can easily happen every day of a shoot (and he'd be in good company.)

It's an excuse for not performing well, for not bringing his “A” game - not that he was drunk on-film.
