The episode where Alfred gets sick and Emil tries to rescue him by taking him to the doctor in the middle of a snowstorm is very touching.

I must admit as an adult I find the historical picture it paints the most interesting. The movie makes the early 20.th century seems so god damn cozy! :) Seeing as how Lina talks about the earthquake in america, it must be around 1906.
