Once Dennis Weaver has the fight at the restaurant and people notice he's upset about the truck, why doesn't anyone fess up? I'm sure others saw the truck chase him into the fence. Was the truck driver inside? Why were they all staring at him? When the truck is parked outside the restaurant, surely someone noticed who was driving it. Didn't know if anyone else thought of this.

The whole point of suspense is to keep you guessing. Maybe the driver was in the diner, maybe they weren't. Maybe those people knew him, maybe they didn't. They were staring at Mann because he seemed off the way he was acting.
