where's highway patrol?

Don't they have any troopers or anything by the highways?

reply

Never around when you need them.

Budget cuts, all units on beef-up patrols along the main freeways.

At the local donut shops. No, I'm wrong. That's the hangout for the local police.

eating tacos.

Out in the deserted areas of the West it is very possible to travel for miles and miles w/o seeing a Highway Patrol car. The areas covered are so large and there are no large population centers in many areas. Years ago when I traveled out West the HP used planes for checking the large areas. Look on a map at some of the states out West. Lots of desolate roads with few towns, especially big ones. It's next to impossible for a thinned out HP Department to be everywhere...

Just try going about 20 mph over the speed limit and they will find you.

reply

Because it's 1971.

Hard to believe that was 41 years ago. Still a good movie that hold up over time.

Ms. Novak,
I thoroughly enjoyed your performance in Vertigo. I saw it years ago at age 14 in a matinee in Prescott, Arkansas. I hope you are doing well.

the area where they filmed that is up on the Cajon Pass by Devore, CA. It's a section of old rt. 66. I used to go up there and train watch a lot. You could be there for hours on end and never see a Highway Patrol or county sheriff, even though I-15 is just over the hill.

A heart can be broken, but it still keeps a-beatin' just the same.

Cops are never around when you really need them.

Where are Ponch and Jon when you need them?????

reply

Out west, there are counties that only have five-man sheriff's departments. So LE is generally spread out in the less populated areas due to less need.

I was wondering the same thing. Not one trooper the entire way? But others have already answered this I guess.
