I'd love a modern remake. However, there is one big problem if this were to take place in present day. Almost all modern vehicles would absolutely annihilate a truck when it comes to speed and acceleration so it would be tough to justify why the driver wouldn't just leave the truck in the dust.

Unless Mann's character drove a Toyota Prius ...

Plus cell phones are part of every day life now. A big part of why Man in the original couldn't call the cops and to wait till he got to a servo with a working pay phone. He could of course lose it or accidentally destroy it.

Everyone has a cell phone these days, but there are still many parts of the USA where cell phones don't have signals. I remember in 2007 or 2008 my friend and I drove from Idaho to Las Vegas using some small highway ... Cell phones didn't had a signal most of the time and we saw maybe 3-4 cars during the 8-9 hours long trip. There were small towns every few hours. So if they ever do a remake it would be a perfect location.

You're really pathetic. Have fun checking what I watch and what I comment. Are you going to write a long story about that too? Get a life granny.

William H. Macy would be a much better Mann than the two you name, IMHO of course.

I agree. Tom Cruise doesn't have that "everyday man" appearance to him due to being a superstar. Hanks could pull off the everyday man thing, but I don't think he could match the extreme emotional panic that Dennis Weaver had in the original film. Macy could definitely pull off both and even crank it up to eleven.

 But this one's eating my popcorn!

reply

When thinking of emotional panic, I can't help but picture Leland Orser in Se7en...
He looks "everyday'ish" and could definately pull that kind of stressed out hysteria off really well.

Love the work of both actors, but.....NO!

reply

I don't use cell phones, and I'm sure I'm not alone. There could still be stories about...us.

They could set it in the same era they would need to keep it as it is same script no silly tart having a part or an, keep it like they used too but make it more scary, more effects ect

I agree vanilla silk. I was thinking exact same thing.

Maybe Tom will be the truck driver. All we'll see are his boots.

We Got This Covered is mostly fake news though.

Maybe they got it from this thread lol

I'd watch a Spielberg remake, but not if Cruise were cast. Hanks would be a much better choice.

reply

I do agree that Hanks would be better in this story than Cruise, unless Cruise can wind down things a bit and do it right.

I hope it doesn't turn into an action epic and is more about one man's struggle to handle a bad situation out in the middle of nowhere with an unreliable or damaged car.

Looking forward to it. (I was actually just watching a bit of War of the Worlds today in fact.)
