Did he died? SPOILER

At the end? How could he get back home perched up on that mountain.

No water. No food.

What about getting back to the road and hitchhiking?

reply

Chuck's cafe probably isn't that far - I'm sure he'd be able to get a cheese sandwich or something....Swiss cheese on rye....R, Y, E.

He's going in to your room, it's you he wants...offer him yourself!!

reply

Just don't start knocking sandwiches outta people's hands once you get there. Diners don't like that, especially redneck truck drivers.

reply

That redneck trucker was very articulate .... "Whaaa?"

reply

I did wonder how long Mann was prepared to just sit there. I thought that he might be making sure that the truck driver didn't emerge from the wreckage.

reply

Makes you think. Oh who cares. What a fantastic entertaining film from Mr Spielberg. Phew!

46 years later and we haven't heard a peep. I think he probably died. And if he didnt die in the crash, old age would have done it....

reply

Well after watching the film again after some 38 years the last time I saw it , indeed he could have survived as the Drivers door on the truck is clearly open just prior to the truck and car going over the cliff, why would that be ? As discussed was that intentional or Not to make the film goer think ?? Or a mistake by the stunt driver who jumped prior to the finale a clever aspect to the film, I know there are various stories as to why and did he die ?
Of course we never know and why spoil it, that is what makes a movie and us debate such things.

It seems there is a certain confusion in this thread whether the "he" you're referring to is David Mann or the mysterious truck driver. My interpretation of your question is you mean Mann. That's easy; he'd walk back to the road (occasionally other vehicles do get by, after all) and asks for help.

reply

He ended up living with that bunch in The Hills Have Eyes.
