Okay Dracula... Okay Frankenstein...

Both of the classic monsters were given bad taste in this movie. Dracula had a 70s alfro and his hair was not combed back like on the cover poster of this film. To me, it did not look as though he was wearing a tuxedo like Bela Lugosi under his cape. However, the ring crest was cool to shoot out lazers and have the devil's face on it. No offence to Zandor Vorcav, but I don't like this version with his voice filling the whole air like a microphone.

As for Frankenstein's Monster, his face looked like a mummified dough boy and the stitches on his head looked like a belt wrap. The hair of his flat top seemed to be a little long as well. I do however like the bandages around his neck; that gave a good look to the monster. This Frankenstein Monster seemed to have been given the classic walk after all. At least he was better than Dracula.

The only few things I like about this film is Lon Chaney's last performance as a menacing zombie; part of it seemed to be inspired by his Wolf Man role even when he wore that mask in the spook house when we first see him. The other thing I like is the Creature from the Black Lagoon music. That music played during the King Kong vs. Godzilla film of 1962. It's kind of like the Wolf Man music and the Mummy music playing in the other monster movies as well. The last thing I like is J. Carrol Naish's performance as the last Frankenstein family member. In a way, his Dr. Daka role from the Batman 1943 film as an inpiration for this one; except that he is crippled and not Japanese.

The rest of the movie blows with the bikers, the 70s teenagers and the midget we see in front of the spook house all the time. All that stuff just brought bad taste to the monsters.

One last thing I have to ask.

Besides the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" trilogy, "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and this film, what other movies did this music play in if it did?

That's all I have to add.

It was used in another s****r "They Saved Hitler's Brain." Great music. This movie wasn't all that bad if you take it in the right way. I like it in fact.

I glad I'm not the only one who was reminded of Dr. Daka or who recognized the music. I wonder if Universal had somehow lost ownership of it. It made sense for it to appear in King Kong versus Godzilla as Universal was the US distributor for the film, but They Saved Hitler's Brain and Dracula vs Frankenstein were independent films.

Eh, if that were the case, it likely would have appeared in far more films. Maybe the two independent companies figured that Universal wouldn't bother with a lawsuit?

In addition to the "Black Lagoon" music, I noticed some passages from Hans Salters' score for "The Ghost Of Frankenstein" as accompaniment for Chaney.

Of course, now I've just admitted that I actually watched some of this movie.

Very interesting. Universal seemed rather fond of reusing the Ghost of Frankenstein theme. I'm not sure how I missed it in this one.

(And no, I was not suggesting that this film was a Universal picture. It most certainly was not up to standard. Although some of the Universal sequels weren't exactly works of art, the least of them was still a notch above this flick.)

much of this appeared as a cartoon, and that's really the first impression you get from the dvd cover as well as the dvd menu and the movie's opening, if i didn't know it was lon chaney jr's last flick i would have thought it was just that, a cartoon, and it's strange how he doesn't even get first billing, though reading around this board it suggests he shot another movie in the same year, after this, it also brings up that they were both made in the late 1960's but this was apparently released in the 1970's, i expected this to be just the worst sort of movie and i was surprised how soon it shapes up which i thought was stock footage, and i was also surprised to keep recognising actors like jim davies, who i wonder if he was some sort of horror actor since he was also in a horror western movie elvira hosted in movie macabre (lady frankenstein dvd), this really has some goofy colours, and some groovy music... frankenstein's monster looks like an overcooked pudding or something, also notice dracula's beard (as one camera shot near the end) looks like two giant front teethes 👹. anyway, this gave me the feeling they were really going for another story vibe but threw in a monster. "i never drink... wine".
