Even by Hollywood standards, this movie is, historically, rubbish. As someone once wrote (and as I quote in my longer IMDB review) the writers just replaced the positive lies of previous Earp movies with negative lies (based, by the way, on scant and/or faulty research). But one of the weirdest inaccuracies is the portrayal of Clum, who is shown as an adversary of Wyatt Earp, when in fact he was a great supporter and admirer.

Bilwick, I liked your review, especially about "replaced positive lies .....with negative lies." How very true. But, since I knew, from reading the real history books that this was also a bunch of historic lies I just sat back and have enjoyed this film twice now because of the acting (Keach is so great I think) of Keach and Dunaway plus the sets plus the idea that Wyatt Earp were just a pretty greedy guy, and not necessarily a pure hero. I enjoyed the film for what it is and it isn't accurate history.

When it comes to fully enjoy watching a movie, one must be fully capable of the "willing suspension of disbelief" incl. completely disregarding knowledge of the actual events in the historical story being portrayed, (most obviously) the laws of physics, human nature, and "common (?) sense." (lol)

P.S. My college roommate quit school in his last semester of getting a degree in film-making because all that knowledge completely destroyed his ability to simply enjoy watching any film for its own sake. :-(
