Was this obvious error made on purpose? E.g. to show how ignorant and or incompetent the announcer was? If so, why?
It wasn't an error. When it was born the whole town of Nairobi was so embarrassed that they all packed up and moved to Kenya.

Happened as recently as a few months back with that woman who said it about Michelle Obama. The history of that comparison is long, disgusting and has played out in American news stories for decades & you don't need to be "suffering from a PC-induced psychosis" to see it. Its documented well enough for even the most ignorant to find...that is, unless you're suffering from an ignorance-induced purposeful blindness.

I mean, what kind of a fool would conclude that a circus freakshow, presenting a black woman who is specifically described as a bizarre aberration, indeed a freak of nature and therefore most certainly not your average black person, is automatically racist because "racists compare black people to apes"?
