Underrated supernatural Giallo

This flicks rep suffers largely due to hideous , censored VHS prints, these crap versions can be founs on some budget DVD packs. Image put out the uncut version, reissued by Gennon and can be had for cheap. Make sure the DVD has the TV Matters logo on the back and you'll get the full version.
Mary Maude is beautiful and very good in this and there are some nice, graphic murders in the vein of what Argento was doing in the early 70's.
Mike Raven is awful and hurts the movie immensely, the rest of the cast is pretty effective.

Saw this today (recorded it) and I agree with the reviewer that it's a real clunker. Mike Raven was a pirate ship and Radio 1 DJ back in the olden days so what qualified him to act in this heaven only knows! However, nice Cornish locations and interesting to see what I am sure was Westcroft Square, W6 when Bolam goes to pick up Lacey for their trip to Cornwall. My grandparents lived at No.2!

Methinks that Mike Raven's resemblance to Christopher Lee was the kiss of death, so to speak, for his career. He would always fail by comparison. Still, he had an undeniable creepy charm.

As for this film, I found it a bit slow-moving, though moderately entertaining. I found this on VHS for 50 cents at a thrift store, and unfortunately the Good Times print is very bad and quite choppy. The picture kept rolling, and I had to play it on another VCR to see the images, but then I couldn't understand the dialogue. I'd love to see a better print. As for this copy: 6/10 stars from me.

Anybody wanting this film on dvd should go for BBC 2 Entertain version. It is of course good quality. Pity about Mike Raven as you say. It should have been Christopher Lee. I particularly like Ronald Lacey amongst the rest of the cast.
