Such a sad little movie...

Well-made, well-written, extremely well-acted, but depressing!! I wished they had fleshed out certain aspects of the plot--such as, why were the kids so rotten to Richard when he went for the groceries? why did Mrs. Graves turn on Richard? Why did Richard destroy her weaving loom? Still, I really loved the characterization, and the direction which allowed the story to take shape and unfold.

I'd have to agree with you. I felt bad for the old couple when Richard refused to leave and I felt bad for Richard himself. The story could have had more fleshing out.

It does indeed have some gaps. Maybe the version I just watched on YouTube is missing some scenes? The is a decent thriller, but it excels as a portrait of a lonely middle-aged couple and their strange bond with a squatter despite a few plot holes. 7/10 stars from me.

I too wonder why Mrs; graves turned on him.
But as for the loom, Richard destroyed it because he was upset that they left him to go visit the sister. He had a tantrum because they left him alone. (And Mrs. Graves forgave him...so it makes it puzzling why she suddenly turned on him soon after).

As for the ass holes being mean to Richard in the grocery store, I guess they were simply bullies who didn't like hippies.
