I was probably around 13 or 14, and I basically had to beg my dad to let me watch it and he finally allowed it since he knew I was very curious and wanted to see the movie badly (though we always discuss movies like that afterwards if he didn't watch them with me). I can definitely understand why he didn't want me to see it for years though. He did the same thing with The Silence of the Lambs, Basic Instinct and Goodfellas, just to name a few.

Bill Foster: I'm the bad guy?...How did that happen?

reply

I was 11 when I watched it the first time. I liked its plot and violence back then.

But I didn't fully understand the movie and its message until I re-watched it being 16. Then I finally recognized its brilliance

reply

13, my dad recommended it to me.

What was its brilliance?

I did not see this film until I was 25. (I was raised in a fundamentalist, evangelical Protestant household. Viewing "X"-rated movies was, most assuredly, discouraged.)

... there has been technological advancement, but how little man himself has changed.

reply

16 I think, but I couldn't finish it until a year later.

I was 14. It was one of those films I had been hearing about online for a while, and I finally had to chance to rent a copy from the local video store. I am currently 22 years old, and nothing else has been able to surpass A Clockwork Orange as #1 in my personal top 10.

I'm watching two foreign films today. I'm better than 47% of you people.

reply

Same, almost exactly the same. Watched it when I was 14 and kept hearing stuff about it, but I watched it on Netflix instead. And now it is my #1.

I was MovieKid56, but then I was cured alright

I was 20 when I saw it in its initial cinema release in 1971...
