talk about depressing

As much as I appreciate Jean Gain and Simone Signoret's acting abilities in their years in film..... this particular picture has no redeeming qualities except to depress you into a state of utter gloom.

lol. Okay, the acting was good, and it was believable, which is what films are meant to do. Just don't look for anything that will bring even the slightest inkling of a smile to yourself, as it just won't happen with this one.

I am glad at least one person (beside me) on this board appreciates it.

It's an unforgettable film.
I can't believe how deserted this board - or Simone's, for that matter - is...

Well said, Nonalger.

I only wish more people were willing to discuss this great film.

I found it depressing but also captivating. It is certainly a memorable film and I would recommend it.

It is a masterpiece. Depressing, yes... But it's more than that. I think he still loves her. The film just happens to depict his anger (because she killed his cat) and his inability to express it. But I think he still has feelings for her.

It's a character study. Perhaps you should stick with something more your speed, like reruns of I Love Lucy or Saturday morning cartoons.
