Were there scenes of...

...a trembling doll that appeared in a room on it's own and a scene where some kids were eating a black cake with blood red filling?

I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid so maybe I have those two scenes jumbled with another film.

reply

Yes that is correct. The evil that is surrounding the town can get into toys and make them kill the parents so that the children can be taken back to the old house where the ceremony is to take place.

The cake apparently is part of the formula so that everything works right.

Thanks for responding. Now I know I really did see this film as a child.

I saw this movie too when I was a kid we saw it in a little town
in central Washington state in 1972. The scenery at the beginning
of the movie when they were driving reminded me a lot of the scenery
around Lake Chelan where we saw the movie although most of the movie
was filmed in New Mexico. I really liked it especially the beginning
when the car was hit by that tank it also had some decent acting I
have always liked LQ Jones and Strother Martin. The movie came with
a second feature Tales from the crypt with Joan Collins, but my sisters
and friends were too scared to watch it so we had to leave early. All
in all a good flick.

Yeah, Tales from the Crypt (1972) was probably a lot scarier than Brotherhood... It was also more graphic and you know how graphic Brotherhood was.

reply

Tales from the Crypt was way superior to Brotherhood of Satan. Love Joan Collins, she's sexy in the crypt.

I'm watching this movie on FEARNET On-Demand right now . I just saw the scene with that Drowsy Doll standing in the living room all by itself and murdering the parents . That doll's facial close-up was really creepy and with the tear coming out of it's eye too . Thanks bigtomnva for the doll link page and to greenlee91 for your subject post .

I've beEn haunted by this movie since I first saw it back in '71-ish. Why does the doll cry? I never got that. Remorse? Then why did it commit the crime in the 1st place? Just wondering.

Well dinatekno my only wild guess(es) here is - the doll itself was being controlled by Satan who was tricking the little girl into thinking the doll was alive and a trusted friend of hers ( but of course was not ) ? So in turn Satan was really doing all this horrific stuff to this particular family by using the doll as the murder weapon of course . Perhaps the " tear of remorse " after from the doll's eye was sort of a telepathic reach-out from the little girl herself because she lost her mom and dad against her will because of Satan ( and was powerless to stop it too ) ? Again just my own wild theories on all this of course only saw this movie once on FEARNET On-Demand this month . I so agree this was a very creepy movie for it's time but a really good one to watch on HALLOWEEN .

That doll was kinda creepy as was that funky black cake with the blood red filling.
