Or magic mushrooms, at any rate. Am I remembering correctly that in the musical number with the cast as "pixies," the set depicts their houses as giant red-capped mushrooms with white spots - in other words, as amanita muscaria? Or did I just get a contact high?

I love that turntable scene, which is every record buff's fantasy come alive. The mushroom house sequence provided a hallucination without the worrisome side-effects of drugs. I'm not big on musicals, but Ken Russell's imagination does it for me anytime, regardless of the film. And this one is wonderful.
