Tommy Tune and Buddy Ebson

For those of you younger folks, you may not know Buddy Ebson. However if you are a tap dancer or fan of it, you probably do. There's a funny story about that, my six year old granddaughter saw a movie with Buddy Ebson in it and was blown away. She asked me who that fabulous dancer was. I told her, and added, you know, Jed Clampett. She said who?? I said you know, Beverly Hillbillies. She said who?? What??? I finally realized I was a couple of generations too late for her to know what I'm talking about. Buddy was a very tall tap dancer in the 1930's and 40's and was absolutely incredible. He moved like he was on wheels or had a motor running in him. If you aren't familiar with him, check out his old films.

Buddy Ebsen is certainly a delightful performer, always recognizable. Because of the date and time of your post, I assume you had been watching "The Boy Friend" on Turner Classic Movies, and perhaps you saw him in "Born to Dance" (1936) earlier in the day. He's not much of a singer, but incomparable in his eccentric dancing.

I don't know why his last name is such a problem. I had looked over the "Born to Dance" Message Board after seeing that movie. There were two Buddy Ebsen threads there, both with his name misspelled, each in a different way, and this thread gets it wrong, too. He'd probably be forgiving if he could be around to appreciate your remarks.
