The Rape

Who was the blonde fellow that did the raping of Cathy Vespers? He looked familiar but a lot of the cast did too. When ever I imdb their credits most of what they have done looks like nothing I've seen.

According to the commentary - and both the writer and director were talking on it so it's pretty authoritative - it's her brother. Who is, of course, already dead at that point. They didn't say how/why he's supposed to have been brought back to life; maybe it's one of those discontinuities that arose when the three original stories were cobbled together into one.

I'll admit there is a resemblance between Robin Davies and the older actor who rapes Cathy. If only they could have made it clear, it truly would have been another horrific moment in a film chock full of them. To be sexually assaulted by one's brother, then ruthlessly stabbed in the back... maybe they didn't want him to be her brother Mark. Both characters apparently climaxed at the same time, as Angel and the others watched in fascination. The rapist can be clearly seen during the climax, so he was still among the coven members.

Don't agree about the character resemblance, but your implication is right, the rapist is not her brother.

Nah, Margaret did say later when she was coming on to Ralph that 'her Master' attends their meetings in the form of his last victim. So, yes, the rapist was her dead brother, Mark.

reply

Nope. Not an exact quote, but Margaret stated while being interrogated by the judge that: "the master will take his form, and when he gets his leg, then he will be complete". The final piece of "his form" just happens to be Ralph's left leg.Margaret never once discussed the nature of the devil's form with Ralph in the scene you specified. She only bragged about its power and tried to tempt Ralph to join the cult by offering sex with both her and Angel. Now back to "his form". This refers exclusively to the incarnated satanic fiend in black. Nothing was ever stated or implied that the devil took the image of any previous victims. Just before the fiend gets speared by the judge, notice it hopping around on one leg.Besides, you can see the rapist character in question standing with the rest of the gang early on, prior to Cathy's brutal rape scene. This is all before satan's form is even shown animated next to Angel. In conclusion, the rapist character is just another member of the gang of lost kids. His head wound means nothing, other than a probable donor site for devil's skin. He doesn't even resemble Mark whatsoever.

Sure, perhaps it was a plot point that was eradicated during the merger of the three stories. However "the brother brought back theory" no longer is intended nor works in the final movie. See my last post in this thread, I explained it all pretty well to another poster.

I think it was the moderator, not the writer or director, stating that the rapist was Cathy's own brother. What puzzles me is that neither contradicted that statement. Pity they never delved deeper into the subject, creating even more controversy than before. Still the most powerful scene in a film chock full of them.
