Question concerning this film

I remember this film vivdly from it was first telecast on CBS. I hope that it
will be available on a remastered DVD one day soon.

I have a question concerning the plot of this film.
In my thinking, the film was set in three different years.

In the opening scenes, I got the idea that something evil or sinister had
just transpired (perhaps some person or persons had been killed or done away with. (The year 1771? Around the time of the original witches of Salem,
Massachusetts?)

The central body of the film. (The year 1871? During the time of most "western"
films?)

The final scene. (The year 1971? The year the film was released.) The station
wagon that was shown was a 1971 model. I know, because my family had one just
like it when I was a teenager in 1971.

I came to the conclusion that this film was set in three different years
only after watching it to the very end.

After watching this film in it's entirety twice (it was repeated on Late Night
CBS), I came to the conclusion that this (community? coven?) of witches came
out once every 100 years to lead some hapless person or persons down the road
of sin and evil and eventually destroy them, or have them destroy themselves.

So, the next time we will see these witches (who never seem to age) will be in
the 2071?

What does anyone else think?

Interesting that the movie was apparently set every 100 years. It's an evil equivalent of Brigadoon if that is true.

In answer to some of your questions: It was not a coven of witches. IT WAS ACTUAL DEMONS FROM HELL. (That's why they didn't age.) Deliverance was actually (she said so herself) Lilith. According to the 'Mayor' of the town they NEED young, pure, and innocent victims to corrupt and destroy in order to survive (presumably for the next 100 years).

And it's a damn irony that that Preacher, while being young, pure, and innocent, was also a doofus. When the Man in Black (Presumably Satan) was pretending to drag Lilith off to rape her, the Preacher shot him in the back (supposedly but not actually killing him) and thus began the blackening of his soul.

If that Preacher had any brains he would have shot him in the ASS. Not only would that have prevented any guilt, it would have foiled the demon's plans right then and there. The whole illusion of the town would have probably instantly vanished and the demons would have gone shrieking back to Hell.
Evil might actually have been destroyed!!!

I don't have much sympathy for the guy.

It still stands up as a story goes.

The Salem witch trials took place in 1692-1693, which doesn't jibe with the "every 100 years" theory.
