Can Anyone Tell Us What Miniseries/TV Show This Was?
Seven years ago around this time of year (September-October) while visiting Ft. Knox, Kentucky my sister and I watched some TV Show or Miniseries on a local channel in the evening. We remember the basic plot, a few characters' names and some of the dialogue from it, but to this day we still cannot remember what show it was!
After "Xena: Warrior Princess" and a TV Show rendition of "Black Beauty" (if anyone else happened to be watching) were over, a show in an American historical setting came on (it was in color, and seemed to have been made in the '80's - early '90's, we're not entirely sure - but was set in American Revolution Era + America). The basic plot was about a doctor widower raising his several children on a homestead. He had an older daughter named Sarah and an older son who appeared interested in a friend of her's named Beth (there was a scene of Beth and Sarah's brother playing in the hay in a barn). But Beth's father insisted that she court a dashing fellow that was dressed as a British (Red Coat) soldier.
One of the scenes showed Beth and her suitor frivolously racing on horseback. He teased her saying that if he one the "race", he should earn one kiss. At one point while they were riding and the guy was ahead he looked over his shoulder and shouted, "Two kisses!" to which Beth, who noticed he was riding dangerously close and fast towards a tree limb, replied, "Watch out!" and suddenly the foolish suitor got knocked off his horse by the tree limb. Then, his true colors were revealed:
Suitor: (About to whip his horse)
Beth: "Stop!"
Suitor: "He could have killed me!"
Beth: "You can't blame a horse! This horse has been whipped before..." (she examines the scars on its whithers)
Suitor: "A horse must learn to obey his master - and so also should a woman."
Beth is astonished.
Another episode featured Sarah's father going out to town and Sarah helping an injured neighbor.
We were 11 and 8 years old at the time.
Does anyone have any clue what the show is or what it might be titled? We've searched all over the place and still can't figure it out.
Thanks for any clues you can fill in!
