Barbershop scene (possible spoiler)

Recently watched this movie & did not understand something that happened after Barbara lost her baby. The doctor was in the barbershop & told everyone present that the baby was a boy & was white. (1971 being way before HIPPA of course!) Then one of the other men challenged the doctor's statement & showed him a piece of paper. The doctor said something like "I see where this is going" & then took off the cape & left the shop in anger. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thank you.

Deputy Mike, Barbara's Father, Implied that Martin was the baby's father. when the Doctor denied it, Mike showed him a photo of Martin and Barbara, that Bernard took. That was the piece of paper.

I believe the Doctor who extracted Barbara's dead baby was the one who saw the baby's fetus, which, therefore makes the doctor's observation correct.

The fact that Bernard took pictures of Martin and Barbara together and then made that biased assumption without even having seen the baby's fetus, on the other hand, shows how biased and prejudiced that Bernard, his family and his friends were.

reply

Which brings up the question of whether someone could tell whether a fetus was Native American or Caucasian.
Seriously doubt it. Have you ever seen a fetus?

Sig, you want a sig, here's a SIG-sauer!

reply

One can tell by the color of the baby's fetus what color it's going to be. Barbara's baby was obviously far enough along when she lost the baby due to getting thrown off of a horse while doing some trick-riding so that the doctor who extracted the dead baby's fetus was able to tell what color and what sex the baby was.

I also might add that not all Native Americans are darker-skinned, either. Some are light-skinned, as well.
