why'd you have to go and do that?

I love this line after the hangman shoves the little kid!! any other lines you love?? Also, when Wayne Tells the tobacco chewer that the one guy is dead and he replies, "I wanna see his body" then Wayne says, ok well he's laid out down at the jailhouse. "Jailhouse??!!" never mind. Good writing....and acting.

"You must think I'm a reeealll dangerous man."

If you haven't learned to respect your elders, maybe it's time you learned to respect your betters.

"Jacob McCandles"
"I thought you was dead?"
"Not hardly"

I love the part where Martha is remarking on how they're rough and dangerous men and they need a man who's just as rough and dangerous to see to it and then the scene changes and you're staring down the barrel of John Wayne's gun.

One of the best character introductions in all of cinema.

"But I ain't never been to Nacogdoches"

"Where's the money, daddy?"

"The next time . . . . I won't take off my goggles"

"You can call me Father, you can call me Jacob, you can call me Jake. You can call me a dirty son-of-a-bitch, but if you EVER call me Daddy again, I'll finish this fight."

"You're short on ears and long on mouth"

reply

(to Martha) "Did you bring my Greeners?"

Maybe my favorite intro to any character ever!

I still use that phrase in my everyday life on occasion.

Pop Dawson: Say, you don't look too good. The sight of blood bother you?
Jake: Only my own.

When Glenn Corbett tells Richard Boone he doesn't like to be called "Breed," Boone hesitates, makes a gesture with his gun, and says, with vintage, understated, Boonian sarcasm, "I'll try and remember."
