Who is on the horse when Big Jake rides down the steep slope?

In one scene earlier in the story, Big Jake rides down a very steep slope to check on his son Michael, who is lying prone on the ground. Who is actually on the horse? Is it John Wayne?

It sure does look like the Duke on that horse. It also looks like they cut, just as Duke is about to fall forward, off the horse. Guessing he caught himself just prior to falling, but they cut that part.
