Am I the only one who...

Prefers this to Mary Poppins?

I'm not saying that it's a better film -- after all, Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way. I just think that Bedknobs and Broomsticks has a certain scrappy, messy charm that the squeaky-clean Mary Poppins doesn't have.

Nope! I've always liked this one more than Mary Poppins, even when I was a kid. Don't know quite what it is, but this has always been one of my very favourite Disney films.

As to the source material, I probably enjoyed the books that both this and Mary Poppins were based upon to an equal degree.

reply

Definitely not. I am almost 50 years old and for well over half my life I have been telling anybody who would listen to me that this is a better movie than Mary Poppins. Personally, I think Bedknobs and Broomsticks is easily the better movie.

This movie, Candleshoe and Mary Poppins - in that order.

I prefer it too. I find Mary Poppins too sentimental, this is more fun. And I like Angela Lansbury muich better than Julie Andrews. I prefer the songs in this as well.

Possibly because an incompetent but kind-hearted would-be witch who manages to save the day is a far more amusing character than someone who is never EVER wrong.

It's the underdog story. Most people love the lovable underdog over the perfectionist.

I like them both equally, really; as I appreciate both types of characters when they're done well.

I find Mary Poppins so boring compared to this movie. I love everything about it more. The songs, the kids were more engaging and funny and the long butt music numbers were not even overdue. Portobello Road especially is such a great number because of the diversity not only in the music, but the dancers. I love Julie Andrews and Disney but kind of hate that Mary Poppins was more popular. But then again, it was never a staple for me growing up and this movie was.

Wildcattin'...Wildcattin'. Pow! I'm gonna go.

Bedknobs was better of a movie. I didn't care for Marry Poppins.

Disney made good movies back in those days, in my opinion. Then again, a lot of movies were made better in those days even if it wasn't Disney. Good music; good movies, good actors. Today, too much is computerized or political.
