who is the funniest out of the python crew

the name says it all

so what does everyone else say?

i say Eric Idle , and runner up would be grahman chapman

reply

i love the way eric idle talks and does his narrarations, he has the perfect comedic voice, but my favorite is by far Micheal Palin. I don't know why, i just love him.

~Don't you hate pants?~

Yeah, yeah, Palin for me too!

"A short guy, kinda funny-lookin'" "How? In what way?" "Ah, just in a general kind of way"

reply

I can't decide! Let's see...

1. Eric Idle
2. Graham Chapman
3. John Cleese
4. Michael Palin
5. Terry Jones

The first four are so close to being equally funny. Not that I don't like Terry Jones; he does the great "saner" roles to balance it out...but even with that order, Michael Palin is my favourite pythoner.

reply

john Cleese is one of my favorites in the python group. something about him I have always liked, and now he gets to be in james bond and harry potter what a lucky guy

reply

What about the people in Bond and Harry Potter that get to meet him? Lucky people! He's my favorite too. He's got a great voice to listen to. Plus he's funny as hell.

reply

It's a close tie between Chapman and Jones. Chapman cracks me up because he's so straight-acting the whole time. He reminds me a lot of Tom Baker for some reason. He's funny in a subtle way.

It's hard to list them like that though. They're all hilarious and I couldn't imagine Monty Python without any of them.

reply

Cleese, definately. and he was a great director outside of the crew.

reply

Funniest?

This is a toughy...

Eric, I guess, is first, Followed by Michael, then Graham... Or maybe it's Graham then Michael. I don't think I can choose. depends on what they're doing ^^

One of my favourite sketches is in the third season episode "Blood, Devestation, Death, War, and Horror", for the whole sketch that stretches for about half the show between Graham and Eric "IT's not my laugh, mate, it's your laugh, it's your mush, it's not my mush, it's your mush, it's you laugh, not mine", just the way Graham says that while he's bouncing around and Eric's just standing there covered in White Wash and cream pie. Brill. I'd like to know who wrote that sketch...

"Boom, boom! one in a row!"

Great.

Michael Palin by far. Before he was the one dude who I just never knew his name, but then he is also the actor he plays my FAVORITE characters! The Ex-Leper in LOB, The First Soldier in the Swallow Skit, Dennis, the Head Knight Who Says Nee, Narrorator in Holy Grail (Here is Scene 24 with some lovely acting), the Father who sings Every Sperm is Sacred and The Lady Presenter. He is EXCELLENT!

"We are interrupting your regular programming because... well. We can."

reply

That's definitely a toughy. I love Eric, Michael, John and Graham, in no particualar order, are my favourites.

"People say I'm crazy..."

What a hard question. My favourite Python is John Cleese because he is just such a naturally funny person, only thinking about the 'Ministry of Silly Walks' kills me. But ofcourse it is the chemistry between them which is the most important thing (their post-Python work shows this I think).

But the main reason for my comment is to make a note of Terry Gilliam's contribution. He obviously doesnt do as much as the others in front of the camera but he always gets good parts (e.g. the jailor in Life Of Brian) and his sketches are fantastic, just think of 'Killer Cars'.

reply

I agree with you...I think John Cleese is sooooo funny! But Eric Idle is also really funny! And so is Michael Palin!!! It is really hard to decide!!!!

reply

michael palin wrote some real funny sketches (as they all did) and john cleese is cool...but that said my favourite really is ERIC IDLE...

John Cleese and Eric Idle are by far the best, followed by Graham Chapman.

My favorites in no particular order:

Graham Chapman
Terry Jones
Eric Idle
Terry Gilliam
John Cleese
Michael Palin

You ain't talkin' to me like that!

reply

They're all terrific in different ways... I'll just list the best parts they've had that I can think of.
Graham Chapman - King Arthur in Holy Grail ("What do you mean? An African or European swallow?"), Brian in Life of Brian ("All right then I AM the messiah!"), Tony Bennet (Christmas guy) in Meaning of Life (It's truly an honorable experience to be here tonight. A warm and memorable moment for all of us, and I want to sing a song for all... of you."). And my favorite of his lines .... well, one of them.... is "Is it about the hedge?" And although this part doesn't have any lines on his part, the one where he's chosen the manner of his own execution.
Eric Idle - Possibly my favorite because he wrote most of the songs. Anyway, loved him as Sir Robin in Holy Grail ("That's uh, that's enough singing for now, lads. There's uh, dirty work afoot.'), the man in the pink evening suit in the Meaning of Life ("And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space cause there's bugger all down here on earth"), and in Life of Brian.... Mr. Cheeky ("Blessed are the big-noses!") or Loretta! ("I want you all to call me... Loretta!") :-)
John Cleese - also great in Fawlty Towers and everything else, he was in "A Fish Called Wanda" with Michael Palin and that rocked. But anyway, in Holy Grail he was amazing as the guard of course (I fart in your general direction!"), in Meaning of Life as the Grim Reaper ("You Americans all you do is talk talk talk, let me tell you something and I just wanna say... well, you're dead now, so shut up.") In Life of Brian.... Reg ("You shall now be called Brian that is called Brian!")
Terry Jones - is so strange. He makes a fabulous Prince Herbert in Holy Grail ("What, the curtains?"), in Meaning of Life he grossed me out as Mr. Creosote ("I couldn't eat another thing, I'm abfolutely ftuffed. Bugger off."), and I liked him as the Find the Fish guy ("Fishy, fishy, fishy, fish!"), and in Life of Brian he was great of course as Brian's mother... ("Sex, sex, sex, it's all they think about. Well, how're you then, officer?")
Terry Gilliam - Only American Pythoner! And soo strange, as well. Interesting characters for him, as Patsy ("It's only a model...") in HG, in MoF the organ donor ("Ah, I know vat it is, but, I'm youzing it, eh?"), and in LoB as the weird guard, who I'm not even going to try and quote.
Michael Palin!! - Last but soo not least. In MoF I like the tiger outfit he did with Eric Idle, but not nearly as much as I liked him as Seargant General with the intersting facial features... ("LEARNING THE PIANO? And I suppose you want to go practice, do yuh? RIGHT! Off you go!") in Life of Brian, he's my favorite... guess the character ("I have a vewy gweat fwend in Wome called Biggus Dickus.... he has a wife, you know. Do you know what she's called? Incontinentia! Incontinentia.... Buttocks!!" ooh, and "No Woger! No Wodewick! No Wudolph the wed-nosed weindeew!") okay.... and in Holy Grail as Dennis ("Help help! I'm being repressed!")
Overall, all great
