Thie was at a time when Amitabh Bacchan, was not the superstar he later went on to become, and Rajesh Khanna was the man of the moment playing the title role with elan.
Amitabh Bacchan brilliantly portrayed the angry young doctor who has an entire life ahead of him and yet is bitter about the poverty and suffering he sees ahead of him. Rajesh khanna comes into his life as a terminally ill patient who has a few months to live and shows him what life is all about.
I was'nt even born when this movie was made. Yet this movie remains fresh today as it would have been then

If the movie was so brilliant, why did it it do so bad at the boxoffice. Only nr.18 for the year.

As the poster above me noted, box office performance does not translate to being a good movie. A fairer comparison would be the awards and acclaim. Notice it won BEST PICTURE.

If anybody feels its not a brilliant movie...its plainly the loss of the person...best acting...best concept...brilliant music...nothing is below the excellent mark...
one of the high points of the movie remains the fact that this movie is loved by people of all generations and of varying tastes...its rather unfortunate that it has a rating of less than 9(though I can guess the reasons behind it)...the movie comes second in my list of all time favourites..and its the favourite of thousands of people...

i cant tell u how much i lyk ths movie.it is my 2nd fav movie first bieng the dharmendra starrer satyakam.............
ths movie made me laugh,cry,pity....everything,i luv it and all the songs r brilliant bt i luv maine tere liye hi saat rang most......
i love rishikesh ji's classic......they r fabulous
