'Hit back twice as hard' (plot question) (spoilers)

What is the deal with the scene where the wife's cousin appears to be experiencing a flashback to the abusive father, since it turns out that it's the WIFE who is the killer?

Anyway, this is one of my favorite Argentos. It's downright surrealistic in parts - I especially liked the maid's death scene. 9/10.

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

They're cousins. Maybe she heard her uncle abusing the Mimsy character when they were kids together. It seems like she's about to tell Michael Brandon's character "something important" on the phone right after she has that flashback/memory.

The cousin remembers that the wife used to be psychologically abused by her father, and suddenly realises she might be the killer. But the way in which Argento shows the sequence to us is to make us think it is the cousin who is the killer.
