Didn´t understand the killer´s motivation... **spoilers***

I watched this film yesterday and I really enjoyed it. The only problem is that the image and sound quality pretty suck, I didn´t understand why was Nina killing? I understood the thing about her parents and all, but not really the reason why was she bothering Roberto so much and killing all those people?

reply

Basically, her father died before she could get her revenge, so she went after Roberto since he looked just like her dad.

I love this kind of films. Argento is my favorite horror director. His twists are always crazy and shocking. I just didn´t fully get, because it was very hard to listen to the film since the audio sucked and it was all confusing at the end.

There are some very bad bootlegs out there.

Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead

There's no need to be insulting. The person who asked the question explained that he didn't understand the ending because the quality of the sound was poor. Having just watched the film, I can see how not being able to hear clearly Nina's explanation would hinder one's understanding of her motivations for her actions.

I never saw any of the bootlegs, but the quality of the DVD is quite amazing for a film thats never been properly released before

Sure, the audio restoration may not be a magnificant as the Visual restoration, but its as good as it can get

I warned you not to go out tonight

Didn't you listen to the dialogue? Her eyes gleaming, she cries that her father died before she got out of the asylum so she couldn't kill him. And then she saw Roberto and it was a miracle. H looked just like her father. She married him so she could torture him and kill him slowly! If you'd been in a movie theater 40 years ago seeing this scene for the first time, it would be absolutely etched in your memory and you'd have fallen in love with Mimsy Farmer!

Until i read this post, even I was unknowing about the killer's motivation; the part where Nina confesses wasn't really that audible.

This was a pretty good flick by the way.

My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world for anyone.

This is an Argento movie, don't feel too bad about it. His killers tend to be pretty silly and have paperthin motives to kill people, backed up by hilarious Freudian psychoanalyses. The beauty of Argento's movies is really in the details of how they kill people, and in the way the protagonist search, find and interpret clues. Argento's movies tend to be amazing, up until the reveal.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Eumenides_0, I actually didn't mind the killer's motive. Of course, no one could have guessed it easily using logic and that perhaps makes this movie even more intriguing.

I generally agree with most of what you wrote, I always feel like the movies are amazing until a point where there are so many red herrings and odd things thrown in until a killer is revealed, and it doesn't really matter who it is, it is almost as if he decides at the last minute and then wraps the movie up. He has always been more about style over substance, to a degree, and I am not saying that as an insult, the style of his movies is amazing. But if you compare his work to let's say Brian DePalma's best work, or even David Cronenberg, the writing is always what seems to suffer in Argento's movies.
