I loved it.

I think you are right. The movie has no beginning or middle or end. But it does have strands, ex. the numerous examples of the god-like control of the composer, Zappa and how his subjects often blame him for thier behaviors, even tho' Zappa is just repeating the shenanigans he caught on tape. Is repetition an act of creation?; loved the tension between rock/blues/pop music and Zappa's "comedy" music and "serious music" for that matter. the "Final Solution to the Orchestra Question" is brilliant, especially when it was delivered by a pop superstar Beatle. Irony inside irony; Enjoyed the attack on music/concert/film as empty spectacle, the abusrdity of the capitalistic prodution of these genres; and of course, I always enjoy the constant self deprecating humor of Zappa. Everytime he points his finger, "Magic Finger"? outwards he is pointing inwards.

The the music is outstanding, especially the orchestral/choral stuff. amazing to hear it good and loud. "The Strictly Genteel" finale is amzing. I've never been a huge fan of the flo and eddie period of Zappa's career, but I've been reinvestigating these albums and I'm really starting to appreciate their singing. "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy" is an amazing song.

I saw this last night at the New Beverly and I think I'll go again tonight.

Yeah, I'm in line if the dvd comes out.
