Please explain...
Can someone please give me an explanation of what went on in this movie? I've watched it all the way through, and I'm not sure what I was looking at.

shareEven after I read the plot on the web site you posted, it still makes no sense, but at least I grasp what's going on. Thanks for your help.

Truthfully, it helps to be a serious Zappa fan to completely "understand" this movie. The tone is meant to depict the almost hallucinatory experience of touring with a large band for an extended period of time. The movie goes from overt symbolism, like the reporters tearing a Zappa effigy to pieces, to band in-jokes, like the "elixir" and the nun suit painted on old boxes.
Due to the incredibly short shooting period, a lot of the "linear" elements were lost or thrown out. It's not a movie you understand, per se; it's at heart very abstract.
Hope that maybe helps a bit. The more familiar you are with Zappa's body of work, the more of 200 Motels you'll "get".
