Betty!

Is Betty Rubble in this show! According to imdb, she's not and all the others are. Can someone remembers seeing her??? She's my favorite character in the Flintstones!

Thanks a lot!!!

Yes she does make a few guest appearances, but with a different voice than the old show. Betty's original voice was lighter and sexier (and who could forget that giggle!), the new voice was a bit lower and whiney.

The original Betty, Bea Benaderet died in 1968. This series started in 71'.

Bea Benederet was fired from THE FLINTSTONES in 1964 or 1965. Gerry Johnson became Betty's new voice.
P.S. I agree;Betty was my favorite character, too.

Why was Benederet fired?

reply

She wasn't fired. Benaderet was a "busy Bea" during this time, as she also played a part in another iconic television series of the 1960s, as the voice of Betty Rubble on the cartoon series The Flintstones, which debuted in 1960. Benaderet resigned from the animated series in 1964 due to the workload on Petticoat Junction, and Betty would be voiced by Gerry Johnson for the remainder of the series' run.

Bea Benadaret WAS fired from THE FLINTSTONES. She showed up late for one taping due to her work on PETTICOAT JUNCTION and either Hanna or Barbera (don't remember) hit the roof and fired her. Her credit was also stripped in the last several episodes she DID complete . A really nasty thing to do to a lovely lady like Bea!!

Gerry Johnson, who replaced Bea on the original series, passed away shortly after the show's final season was completed in 1966. I always felt Ms. Johnson gets a bum rap for trying to fill Bea's shoes, which I feel she did rather well.

Gay Hartwig did Betty for PEBBLES AND BAMM BAMM - although she's curiously not credited for it on IMDB's page for the show, she is on her own page. As I recall Betty is very much a minor character on P & BB. It always kind of irritated me that they had Pebbles calling her "Betty" - she should have at least said Miss Betty, if not Aunt Betty.

WRONG!

Gerry Johnson did a good job as Betty. Gay Hartwig was awful, with that whiny voice that sounded nothing like Bea nor Gerry.

Bea Benadaret is THE Betty to me.Shame on Joe Barbera [for all my admiraiton.]

Gerry Johnson is listed as dying in 1990.

The year of death for Gerry Johnson has been debated on the net several times. I don't believe she received any press when she did pass away, nobody sees to be able to locate any old articles. At the time I mentioned she passed away in 1966 on my old post here there was only one or two things on the net about her being deceased and only one of them gave a year, 1966. Whoever came up with that year could have possibly confused her with Bea Benaderet, although the latter didn't pass away until 1968. Since my old post who has said they were Gerry Johnson's daughter has posted on the net that she passed away in 1990 and that year of death seems to be accepted now but still no published obituaries have been located on the net to be absolutely certain of when she died.
