Early 1980s Masterpiece Classic, a scene of someone buried alive?

I recently watched the Leonardo DiCaprio film. The Revenant and it reminded me something I saw on PBS way back in the early 80s. I'm fairly certain this was a Masterpiece Classic production.

The setting was around the same period as this film, maybe closer to early American Colonial times. There was a scene where someone was buried alive and he later crawled out of his grave. I don't remember if he was buried because they mistakenly thought he was dead and it was done intentionally.

I remember it was at night when he crawled out. Some Indians saw this and thought he was a divine spirit or they really spooked out. I don't know for sure, it's been so long.

I know its a longshot but I curious if this rings a bell with anyone here.

Up until you mentioned “indians” I was convinced you were referring to the original Poldark series from 1975, starring Robin Ellis.

As far as I know, the only Masterpiece Theatre program set in Colonial US is the old BBC adaptation of The Last of the Mohicans.
