Was this only shown in Canada?

I am Canadian - born and raised in Southern Ontario. I now live in the U.S. and whenever I mention this show (fondly of course) no one ever seems to know what I'm talking about. Did it never run in the U.S.?

reply

It ran in syndication in many U.S. television markets throughout the 1970s, and some places into the 1980s. I'm not sure if it's on currently anywhere though.

I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and I remember "THHOF" being shown from the mid 1970's to the early 1980's.

Cheers!

Sincerely,

Steve B.

Yep, it was shown on Channel 62 in Detroit at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, I think, in the mid '70's when I was a kid. I also recall it being shown again in the early '80's possibly on Channel 20, I believe. "The Librarian" and sections with the witch were my favorites.

I saw it in Buffalo on CHCH-TV 11 out of Hamilton, Ontario.

"It's like I'm talking to my Aunt Sylvia here!"

I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY. I remember this show! I was discussing kids shows with someone who had no idea wtf I was talking about.

There is a running gag in these parts, wherein you meet someone abroad who, finding out that you're Canadian, mentions a cousin in some obscure little town, (or Toronto) and asks if you know him; Canada is a very, very big country.
In the early 70s television programming was still mostly local, except for the stuff that came from the US, which was often local, to them, and you only got that if you lived close to the border.
If the CBC didn't produce this show, it would only be known in Upper Canada, (southern Ontario) where it was filmed. Any of you Ontarians remember "Pete's Place?"
There is a trivia comment on Vincent Price's page, which states that he is best known in Canada for having done the one voice-over on this obscure bit of regional TV, hardly. I was fourteen in 1971, and watched television for about nine hours a day, and I've never heard of this show and certainly not this one episode; the name Billy Van rings a bell though, probably from Sonny and Cher.

FYI this show still airs in repeats on the Drive-In Channel in Canada.

I grew up in Buffalo, and used to watch it on a Canadian channel, but it was on really, really early. I think 5 or 6 a.m.

I grew up in Niagara Falls (NY) and used to watch it as well, but I can't remember if it was on the Canadian channels or the U.S. channels.
