Favorite song?

Besides the main theme, what would you consider to be your favorite song (or songs) from the show?

reply

I don't remember a particular song but what I mostly remember about the show was when they'd sound out words face to face and the letters would come out too. I loved that.

reply

There were lots of them.

"Tilt," "Poison," "Hard, Hard, Hard," "Hot Shot" and "Boom" by the short circus
"Whistle"
"Broken Down Bronco Bruce" (still makes me smile today)
"You Oughta Try Two"
"Right On"

But I think my all time favortie was "I love the Wind."

reply

I liked the "Grin" song as well. That and "Face, Fingers, Feet."

I remember some of those songs- wasn't there another one called "Don't Point" where the father teaches his little girl not to point?

I always liked when the gang dressed up like it was the 1950's and sang "Sock Hop"

Sock hop, sock hop, sock hop Saturday Night.....

reply

Does anyone remember the song Whimper and Whine? Is there anywhere to get the words from this song and others?

reply

Who was the drummer in Joe Raposo’s band for the show? Probably one of the most incredible rock drummers ever. There are so many ill breaks to sample! Peace.

Everyday things happen every day.

reply

Yes, there is an Electric Company song lyrics archive. It's located at

http://home.triad.rr.com/electriccompany/categories.htm

"Whistle" gets my vote.
(I whistle...and I RUUUNNN!!!)

reply

I remember Whimper and Whine. Buddy sang on it. Did he sing alone, or did Kelly sing with him?

I know that isn't there real names. I tried to use whimper as a synonym for cry in the second grade, as teacher allowed whine, I decided, well, I'll go for the other word then.

For some odd reason, she didn't allow it.

reply

Buddy sang it with Julie (June Angela).

reply

I liked the song, Back to Boogaloo, with Johnny Cash singing. (AT least I think it was Johnny Cash, and at least I think it was on the electric company!) Someone help clear this up!

The lyrics went:
Back to Boogaloo
Back to Boogaloo
That's the place I'm going to (woo woo)
Back to Boogaloo
Back to Boogaloo
If it's the last thing that I do.
I'm going back to Boogaloo.

I don't recall that on EC but the song is by Ringo Starr Back off Boogaloo.

Actually there was a song on Electric Company about Back to Boogaloo. It was one of the cast members impersonating Johnny Cash. I remember this one still.

reply

Oh, some of them have been listed here.

Punctuation was a fave.

T! I! O! N! Shun, shun, shun, shun!

Denise Nickerson (Dark Shadows, Willie Wonka - she was Violet) was on there and sang a song called "The Sweet Sweet Sway" and that song stayed with me for too long! That was the first time I saw her on there.

Living In The Hay was a favorite (Jay-jay and Winnie).

Bear with me, Kelly and Julie sang an "OR" song. They were sisters and Rita Moreno was their mother.

"Get out of bed, OR you'll be late for school,
Button your coat OR you will catch a cold
Don't walk slow, OR you'll miss the bus.

Dum-tiddly-um-tum-da-tum-tum.

Do your homework OR you cant watch tv.
Brush your teeth OR you'll get (something) cavities
Pick up your room OR youre gonna get a spanking,
Dum-tiddly-um-tum-da-tum-tum.

Kelly sang the first line, Julie sang the second, and that cavities line would just kill us the way she sang it so fast.

Luis, the latino man, would sing about being two brothers (him in a dual role) sloppy and neat. Bob was neat, and Pete was the slob.

They would sing about each other. "I'm sloppy, not like my brother Bob" & "I'm not sloppy, I'm very neat. I'm not sloppy, like my brother Pete."

I used to think that their names should have rhymed what they did. Neat Pete and Bob the slob.

And I liked Grease and Phantom of Love too, by the way.

Rita Moreno sang "My Nephew Alfonso".

OH! And the Hate song! -- Rita Moreno

I hate my cousin Doris,
I hate to go to bed.
I hate those little squishy things they stick in something bread.

I hate to kiss my uncle, I hate these stupid shoes,
But most of all I hate something about hate.

Heyyyyyy, Diddle, Diddle!

-- diddle, diddle, diddle, diddle.

The caaaaaat, and the fiddle!

Remember all those fat cats singing this? Unreal!

The Silent E cartoon, which I got the song recorded off of Dr. Demento years ago. The singer was a real accomplished artist of some sort.

Wonderful song.

But the Short Circuit, with Irene Cara, would also sing a song "An E on The End" which was fantastic.

If it's there you say 'cape' if it isn't say 'cap'

If it's there you say 'same' if it isn't say 'sam'

(I'm having to use the rhymes from the Silent E song.

"Don't add W, don't add X, and don't add Y or Z, just add silent E!"

He took a dam and turned it into a dame,
But my friend Sam, stayed just the same. (And we see Uncle Sam standing there)

FYI...Roberto was the name of the bald Hispanic guy who sang the 'sloppy and neat' song, along with "Grin" and other songs...the actor's name happens to be Luis; Luis Avalos...you probably got him confused with Luis (Emilio Delgado) on Sesame Street.

I remember Irene Cara got her start on 'Electric Company'...I had a crush on her as a 6-yr. old!

------------------------------------------------------

Excuse me, but I am capable of recalling these people or their characters without any assumptions from you. I do not confuse who I saw on sesame street with who I saw on the Electric Company.

The two men look nothing alike. Do you think I thought just because they were both latin I must confuse them for one another?

Maybe I was just capable of knowing the real man's name without having to think of Luis on Sesame Street.

You've failed to correct me in that Rita Moreno's character was Carmela, nor have you provided a character name for Denise Nickerson.

You must think I thought her name was Violet. Or was it Nora?

reply

Because you asked, Denise Nickerson's Short Circus character's name was Allison.

And, in response, I meant ABSOLUTELY NO presumptions WHATSOEVER about your ability to distinguish faces and names OR your ability to recall characters from TV shows...I was doing nothing more than correcting a mis-stated fact and trying to be helpful...if being corrected or someone trying to help offends you, I apologize.

reply

librachashjesu: "...I was doing nothing more than correcting a mis-stated fact and trying to be helpful..."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Incorrect. You are in error. You corrected no mis-stated fact.

I said "the song sung by Luis, the latino man."

I knew that was the performer's name, so that is what I typed. His first name is indeed Luis. I made no mis-stated fact.

If I did, then please, point it out to me, but you failed to correct me on any error.

I typed Rita Moreno's real name and Irene Cara's real name, and I typed Luis' real name. I did not type his last name. It is Avalos. But it IS his name.

Tell me how this was an error.

Then you compounded on this by ASSUMING I mistook him for Emilio Delgado from Sesame Street.

They look NOTHING ALIKE!

If I am going to mistake the hispanic actor for someone else, it wouldn't have to be someone else who was hispanic! It would have been someone who looks like him. Mr. Spacely off the Jetsons, I guess. But I didn't type Cosmo (Spacely's first name) nor did I type Mel (Mel Blanc, who did the voice).

I typed what I knew, the performer's name. Luis.

I used to confuse Rita Moreno with Lena Horne back then because they wore the similar hairdo at times, both had big brown eyes, both sang, Rita was on Electric Company, Lena appeared on Sesame Street, but guess what?

Lena Horne isn't latino.

What you did was make a very insulting assumption that I confused two men because they were both latino.

reply

The "Silent E cartoon" was written and performed by Tom Lehrer, who did a few other songs for the show. He is a VERY accomplished singer/writer of novelty songs, with a few albums. And, yes, his songs are frequently featured on "The Doctor Demento Show".
