okay I have distinct memories of wacthing this show but It says it ended in 1978. which was the same year i was born.

Yes, it stayed in reruns from 1978 until 1985. The reason the reruns ended was a lack of funding.

You must have misread the copyright date because they ceased production in 1976-1977.
