Met Rita Moreno at her cabaret show

I saw Rita Moreno after her cabaret show at the Plush Room in San Francisco--still performing after her 70th birthday--and mentioned to her that she was my favorite cast member on The Electric Company. When I added that I expected her to sing "Punctuation" when she came out on stage, she proceeded to sing a few bars of the song right there to me personally!

Raymond, you are officially my new hero. If you ever run into Morgan Freeman, try to get him to sing the Easy Reader theme song. And make sure you get it on tape!

I don't think that's going to happen, my friend.

My story isnt as good, but I wrote Ms. Moreno a while back and told her of my devotion to her work on Electric Company--especially the "HEY YOU GUYS!" and she sent me a personally autographed picture with those very words on it! I was (and still am!) tickled to death with it! Although to be personally serenaded would have surely been a momentous moment!! Thanks for sharing!

Rita was one of my favorites on the show (along with Vi).

I heard an interview with her on NPR (Diane Rehm or Terry Gross) about a year ago where they asked her about her experience on TEC. She spoke very fondly of the show and kids that are now adults who are some of her biggest fans mentioning that she's never shied away from showing appreciation by obliging fans by doing short impromptus of EC skits (compared to those who seem rather embarrassed by it [cough] Morgan {cough] Freeman [cough]). Maybe someday I'll be fortunate enough to see her perform live.

I wonder if she ever tried to direct anything? If she did, I think every actor would make sure to get their damn lines right on the first take so as not to piss her off.
