In what studio was the first show [produced ?

A total of 780 episodes were broadcast from October 25, 1971 to April 15, 1977. Episodes were produced at Reeves Teletape Second Stage (81st & Broadway) in Manhattan, New York City, which during the 1970s had some of the most advanced CGI in the industry, but Reeves later went bankrupt and the building is now home to a Staples store.

Actually, the building was torn down, and a new building was built in its place. I remember seeing the Reeveā€™s Teletape awning every day when I went to grammar school in that area. Peace.

Sesame Street used the same studio until they moved to Kaufman Astoria Studios.

Hi....to really answer your question, the first season of The Electric Company was taped at the old Metromedia Studios (Channel 5 in New York) on 65th Street. They just rented space. Then, CTW struck a deal with Teletape and the cast to split studio time with Sesame Street at Teletape's 81st Street studio for the second season. The cast wasn't thrilled about this idea because the split taping wasn't 50/50, rather more like 25/25/25/25. This left them little time to commit to other projects. The actual Teletape soundstage is where condos now stand, but the front of the old theater entrance is still there on Broadway. The old lobby was where the costumes were stored for TEC but the windows were blacked out so you couldn't see in.

For your information, before Sesame Street moved to Kaufman, they did a couple of seasons in the 80's at Unitel on 9th Avenue, but this was a very small theatre and the street set just barely fit. This studio is also gone and is now a dance school.

This may sound like and odd question but did they take apart of SS set?

I know that's done sometimes but since the set is so big maybe the studio had another room were TEC was done, same with the SS muppet scetches.
