'Get out of bed' + Lollypop songs

Does anyone remember a skit where two girls are jumping on the bed singing this song. It has been, oh 30 years, and I still remember a portion of this song - "get out of bed, or you'll be late for school...". Also, I remember some song that went something like "lolly lick a lolly lick a lolly lollypop (repeats). If anyone has the lyrics, please email let me know.

Thanks.

I vaguely remember the I Hate to Get Out of Bed song, but I remember the lollipop tune. It first appeared in the third season and had Rita, Luis, Jim and Hattie dressed up as kids (circa 1918) prancing around. Their names were Billy, Molly, Solly and Millie and each verse was about one of them licking a lollipop, but I don't remember all of the lyrics.

Two favorites.

The get out of bed song, was OR.

It was the two girls, Julie and Kelly. Rita Moreno was the mother.

The girls would take turns singing the lines. I know this one because I memorized it, I liked it so much.

Kelly: Get out of bed,
Julie: OR you'll be late for school.

K: Button your coat,
J: OR you'll catch a cold.

K: Don't walk slow,
J: Or you'll miss the bus.

Both girls: dum-diddly-um-dum-dah-dum-dum.

K: Do your homework,
J: Or you can't watch tv.

K: Brush your teeth,
J: Or you'll get --- cavities (I'll come back to this line).

K: Pick up your room,
J: Or your gonna get a spanking.

Both girls: dum-diddly-um-dum-dah-dum-dum.

They then sang it faster the second time around.

Now Julie's cavity line amused us to no end, the way she got shrill when she sang that one. We never really understood what she said, but it sounded like a brief word before cavities.

I used to sing X-cavities. It could have been bad cavities or something.

Rita would then enter and announce it was Saturday, no school, they could sleep in OR watch tv or something like that.

I sent off for the dvd set. I am on disk two. If the song is on one of the other disks (and it would be nice if it is) I'll try to listen for the words.

Hey guys, sorry I'm late to the party!!! There is a second verse in between the two verses given. Also, there was a begining that was done at a slow, melancholy pace.

Here is the entire song beginning to end:

Hello, and welcome to another day.
It looks as if it’s gonna be the same old way,
Where we never ever get to choose,
And every way you look at it, you lose.

Get out of bed,
Or you'll be late for school.

Button your coat,
Or you will catch a cold.

Don't walk slow,
Or you'll miss the bus.
Bump, diddly ah-duh, bump, bump.

Eat your sandwich,
Or you don't get dessert.

Change your clothes,
Or you can't go out and play.

Pick up your room,
Or you can't have a snack.
Bump, diddly ah-duh, bump, bump.

Do your homework,
Or you can't watch TV.

Brush your teeth,
Or you'll get a cavity.

Turn out the lights,
Or you're gonna get a spank.
Bump, diddly ah-duh, bump, bump.

FYI, there is a lyrics archive, which is where I found this at:

Now I thought first you meant the lollipop cartoon song.

"Oh, golly this lollipop is following me and I really don't know what to do. If you think it's silly to run nilly willy when a lollipop follows you, when a big yellow lollipop, GOLLY, follows you!"

But the song you mention was real, it wasn't a cartoon.

J. Arthur Crank, the actor, started it as Billy.

Billy had a lolly.

Can't recall the verses, but the chorus went something like this.

Billy lick a lolly, lick a lolly lick a lolly. Billy lick a lolly, lick a lolly, lollipop.

Repeats.

Seems the final line was different tho.

Now next was Rita Moreno as Lilly.

After each verse about the character, there would be a chorus of "la-la-la-la's" and these would get longer with each character's addition.

Then we got Luis Avalos as Solly. I always thought that should have been Sully.

Finally Hattie Winston would be Molly.

No, I got those backwards. Molly was second, then Lilly, then Solly.

By the time of Solly, the "la-la-la's" were very long before the chorus.

So it went something like this, I do remember the final line.

"Solly lick a lolly, lick a lolly, lick a lolly. Solly lick a lolly, lick a lolly, lollipop. Solly lick a lolly, lick a lolly, lick a lolly. Solly lick a lolly and we better just stop!"

Again, I got the four dvd set.

The lollipop cartoon has already turned up, so I will post the words if either the OR song or the Lollipop song turn up on these.

Richard, you are awesome! Electric Company was such a huge part of my childhood, and these two songs have remained with me the past 30 years. I would find myself just singing "get out of bed, or you'll be late for school" and then humming the rest of it. Same goes with "lolly lick a lolly lick a lolly lollypop. I have tried many times to find sites on the web that would have the lyrics, but it was all in vain. I wouldn't call it an obsession, but I have been bound and determined to discover the elusive lyrics. And I had no idea that EC was out on DVD. Must find and buy immediately.

A thousand blessings upon you, my friend!

Been very surprised to hear these old songs on the dvds.

Neither of the ones you are after, alas, are on there.

Believe it or not, there is a songless skit with Judy T. (Winnie) as the mother to Kelly and Julie, on here.

many favorites and forgotten songs are on these.

I still sing this verse in my head sometimes. Oh, the propaganda against lollipops!

But isn't the very end line, "when a big yellow lollipop ALWAYS follows you?" That's the way I sing it.

Now, the song was double L. It was 'Golly' and if I am wrong, so be it, but I am rather certain it was Golly.

I guess I could watch the show again, but I've loaned the shows to my brother for my neice.

You would not believe that the lolly pop sound and the spider man song are the only two that I remember. LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I read the user comments on here and I smile and weep at the same time it is so nostalgic.

"Molly lick a lolly lick a lolly lick a lolly"
Then they would go on to Polly, then other names that rhymed until they were pushing each other and fighting....lol too funny.

Spiderman where are you coming from Spiiiiiiiiderman and nobody knows who you areeeeeeeee. Remember the sketch with the rubber chicken spiderman's evil nemesis. Lawd I am 32 years old and I need to get a life (not to mention buy all copies of this fantastic kids show).

Funny, the stuff we remember from childhood. I just got my DVDs and I'm only on the second one.

I've been saying "Outtasighteous" for years and had no idea I had first picked it up from Electric Company until I heard Morgan Freeman say it in his DJ skit.

The EC song that sticks most with me is "Whimper and whine."

No way! Me, too! I guess if you hear someone actually say that, you know what age range they must be in. :)
