Schoolhouse Rock

Maybe it was on Sesame Street or maybe I'm just dreaming it up but I could have sworn that they use to show the Schoolhouse Rock clips on The Electric Company?

reply

Same artists did the cartoons, probably, so lots of the EC/Sesame cartoons looked the same as Schoolhouse Rock cartoons.

They were indeed kindred spirits that both rocked, but "The Electric Company" aired on PBS and "Schoolhouse Rock" aired on ABC. But I'm pretty sure my local CBS affiliate carried them both because I did not have access to PBS or ABC when I was a child. Anyway, I don't think either show aired the other's clips.

Old Thread and Late Response

The Schoolhouse Rock series were indeed on commercial television as someone in the thread pointed out. You can get them on DVD now.

The Electric Company had a couple of animated shorts put to songs by Tom Lehrer. The two I remember and know for sure are "Silent E" and "L-Y" to teach about adverbs. Tom Lehrer was a Harvard mathematician and singer-songwriter of zany songs (Poisoning Pigeons in the Park was one of his more famous ones). Not sure how he came to be involved with TEC.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
