I remember Spiderman lost to the book worm and the can crusher !!! Why was this !!!!!!!!! I remeber the Can Crusher was trying to solve a childhood trauma (smashing cans in hopes of finding his lost childhood pet. A froggy who got trapped in a can of soup while visiting a soup factory). Maybe this had something to do with why the writers let him get away ? Let him kick spideys but !!!! If I remember correctly the can crusher knocked Spidey on his but when he hit him with that hammer !!!! Then he confessed his childhood trauma while getting away !!!!! The book worm was this goofy looking green snake like puppet. I think I remeber it hissing while eating a book in the start of the episode. I guess spidey couldn't catch it because it was just to slippery !!!
I remember expecting a part two to the Can Crusher, because he got away. Furthermore, the narrator of that adventure, Morgan Freeman, said that Spiderman 'might have to get some help from that fat fellow, the Blue Beetle' which I thought was odd because Jimmy Boyd played both the Can Crusher and the Blue Beetle.
The Bookworm story is reprinted in Spidey Super Stories #6, the comic book, as The Bookworm Bully, and yes, he too got away.
The bookworm was a puppet by the way, that didn't speak. We just heard this strange gurgling noise when he was around.
Cinemajunkie I also kept expecting a part two of the can crusher. I wonder why they did a skit where our hero spidey lost ? In the comic book version "The book room bully" does spider man win agianst the book worm or is it pretty much the same thing ?
No, the bookworm escaped with a promise that he may return. Actually it ended with an idea that Spiderman ran him off, but he may return was the way it went.
He also lost in the episode "Spidey Meets the Queen Bee." After following the Queen's drones to her hive, Spider-Man captures her bee keeper in his web. Unfortunately, the bee keeper unleashes a hornet with a poisoned stinger. While the hornet distracts Spider-Man, the Queen's drones mercilessly sting him while she escapes. Anyone else rememebr this episode?

Yep, I remember it and have it in the comic book and forgot all about it. He did lose to the queen bee. Hattie Winston or Winstead was the Queen Bee. I remember the other two jokers as dron bees stinging Spiderman with their hands on their hips and they were 'butting' him.
Wasn't there a villian called The Sack? I think Spidey follows the sack into a factory, and the sack hides among other sacks. The last scene shows The Sack sneaking away as Spidey and Morgan Freeman as a Cop empty sacks of flour.
Anyone notice that Rita Moreno was almost never in these Spiderman segments? She played the Bowler but other than that I can't think of any other Spiderman segments that she appeared in even as a minor character. Also the villians were nearly always males. I can only recall the Fox, Queen Bee and Queen of Hearts (or was it Queen of Diamonds?) all played by Hattie Winston. As far as being progressive they cast Melanie Henderson as the president of the United States in the Funny Bunny sketch! How progressive is that?
I don't recall Morgan Freeman ever playing a villian either. Speaking of being progressive he was hands down the most authorititative person in that whole cast. If they needed someone to play a figure of great stature or dignity he was better cast than the other males.
I guess the writers were aiming for the humanitarian edge/ animal rights. When the can crusher said he was looking for his froggy that got trapped in a can of tomato soup. But yes I didn't like seeing Spidey lose to that lamo ! What were the writers thinking ?
